CPPS*, CPPA and CPPM Renewal Requirements

We commend you for your commitment to excellence in the property management profession. Your dedication is evident by your continued efforts to expand your knowledge base, to further your professional development and growth, and to encourage and motivate others to achieve excellence in the profession.

Your CPPS, CPPA and CPPM credentials are valid for five (5) years, during which time you must participate in the required professional activities listed below. In order to revalidate your certification for an additional five years, you must submit a completed Certification Continuance Application and $75.00 processing fee to the NPMA National Office.  CPPAs and CPPMs may be notified via e-mail when the certification renewal is due, however, it is the member's responsibility to keep up with the expiration dates.  We suggest that you create a file for maintaining records of your renewal activities, since the NPMA office does not store such a file.

*Effective January 1, 2013 all CPPS certificates will have a five (5) year expiration date. All CPPS certifications acheived prior to this day will expire on 12/31/2017.

Required professional activities:

A. Have no more than a (3-month) lapse in certification.

B. Complete a Certification Continuance Application indicating that you have participated in any three (3) of the following nine (9) activities over the 5-year period prior the expiration date:

1. Participated as an instructor or speaker in a property management program, training, or meeting

2. Attended two (2) conferences, seminar, training, or educational function where technical, administrative, or managerial applications on property management were discussed or demonstrated.

3. Obtained fifteen (15) credit hours of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from a university, college, government, industry, or professional organization (e.g. NPMA, NCMA, NMA, AMA, DAU, APICS) for courses/ seminars related to property management. NOTE: 8 hours of courses/seminars equals 1 CEU.

4. Attended five (5) property related Webinar(s) or on-line training sessions over past 5 years.

5. Have authored or co-authored a presentation, paper, thesis, or article about property administration or property management either published or electronic.

6. Actively participated in a property council or a consensus-based standards association.

7. Have served as an Officer or a Committee Member of a property association at the Chapter, Regional, National, or international level.

8. I have attended at least four (4) Chapter and/or Special Interest Group meetings where technical, administrative, or managerial applications on property management were discussed or demonstrated.

9. I have worked in or supervised property-related position(s) during the past five years.

What if I have not participated in the required professional activities?
If you did not participate in three of the above activities over the last five years, you must successfully complete the Certification Continuance Examination(s). The CPPA examinations consist of two 50 multiple-choice questions covering the current intermediate property manual and supplement that correspond with the applicant's study curriculum. The CPPM examination is a situational judgment examination. There is a sample of the situational judgment examination under Testing Information, Requirements and Schedule. Use the Certification Continuance Application to order the examinations.

NPMA offers many education offerings that can be used for some of the requirements listed above. Here is a link to current educational offerings. Educational Offerings
